The Master of Public Health program was first launched at Chiang Mai University in 1987 as a collaborative program between Faculties in Health Sciences field, Chiang Mai University and School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham, funded by University of Alabama at Birmingham and WHO. The program was a 1-year international program with a direct degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham. Students in this program were from various Asia countries such as Sri Lunka, People’s Republic of China, Japan and Thailand. The program was completed in 1 year. After that executives from Faculties in Health Sciences field, Associate Professor of Dentistry Sampan Srisuwan, Dean of Faculty of Dentistry had consulted with Professor Emeritus Dr. Wijit Srisuphun, Dean of Faculty of Nursing and Associate Professor Dr. Tongpaan Tiamraj, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy during that time regarding the importance of developing Master of Public Health program (Thai program) at Chiang Mai University to serve the need of Thai public health personnel in furthering their study. They then invited Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences and Research Institute for Health Sciences to collaborate in preparing the program. The Master of Public Health program (Thai program), which was a multidisciplinary program under the management of the Graduate School and all Faculties in Health Sciences field, was first launched in 1990 with shared resources from Faculties in Health Sciences field such as teachers, supporting staff and building. Currently, the program has continued, yielding more than 200 graduates working in public health agencies and educational institutes in private and government sectors nationwide.
The Chiang Mai University Council led by Professor Emeritus Kasem Watanachai, M.D., CMU Council Chairman and Professor Emeritus Avudh Srisukri, M.D., CMU President have realized the importance of providing public health programs at various levels, developing research studies to solve public health problems at the reginal and national levels, implementing new knowledge derived from research studies to sustainably solve public health problems with continuing programs up to doctoral degree witn international concept so as to create working network with leading international and domestic universities. In order to manage and mobilize resource to support the program development, the Chiang Mai University Council has agreed to establish the Faculty of Public Health as per Chiang Mai University Annoucement entitled CMU unit establishment 2017, dated 25 March 2017. The issue was also published on the Royal Gazette, Volume 134, Special Issue 114ง on 25 March 2017. The Faculty of Public Health is designated as an academic section for public health education management and the main organization to provide public health knowledge with systematic development of academic knowledge and research so as to be able to manage the program with unity and respond to the more complex current health problems. The Chiang Mai University Council has appointed Professor Emeritus Suwat Chariyalertsak, M.D. as the Dean of Faculty of Public Health to fulfill the assigned mission.
Currently, the Faculty of Public Health has received transferred curriculum from Graduate School of Chiang Mai University to provide 2 MBA programs; Master of Public Health program (Thai) and Master of Public Health, One Health (International) as a double degree in collaboration with University of Minnesota, USA.

Multidisciplinary Department of Public Health, Graduate School of Chiang Mai University has handed over the curriculum for Master of Public Health Program and One Health Program on 31 July 2017 at 1-314 conference room, 3rd floor, Building 1 of Graduate School, Chiang Mai University for transferring to be under supervision of Faculty of Public Health, Chiang Mai University. Professor Emeritus Suwat Chariyalertsak, M.D., Dean of Faculty of Public Health and Associate Professor Dr. Eakachai Sangin, Dean of Graduate School of Chiang Mai University have signed for the program transfer.

Training on Mixed Method & Mendeley Program
OMultidisciplinary Department of Public Health, Graduate School of Chiang Mai University has held the training on Mixed Method and how to use Mendeley program during 29 – 30 July 2017 at San Pra Nate Room, Lotus Pan Suan Kaew Hotel with a number of interested attendees, including teachers and students from the public health program. The invited speakers are Associate Professor Dr. Yothin Sawangdee from Mahidol University and Dr. Khanita Duangchaemkarn from Payao University.
