Chiang Mai University and the University of Minnesota host the 4th iCOMOS Conference 2019
11 February 2019
Corporate Communication and Alumni Relations Center (CCARC)
Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, USA, held the “iCOMOS 2019” international conference during February 11 - 14, 2019 in Chiang Mai.
At the opening ceremony, CMU’s President Clinical Professor Dr. Niwet Nanthachit, and Prof. Trevor Ames, Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota, welcomed the participants from more than 15 countries and Prof. Srirama Rao, Chair of the International Conference on One Medicine One Science, United States, delivered an opening speech.
The International Conference on One Medicine One Science (iCOMOS) is based on the “One Health” concept and the integration of new knowledge to improve epidemic disease prevention and control as well as improving the safety of consumption of animal products. These issues are challenging due to the nature of the problems which are associated with many fields of study. Therefore, creating a strategic partnership is essential to exchange and present academic information in the various sciences which contribute to resolving the human, animal and environmental problems. Thus in response to these challenges the first iCOMOS conference was organized at University of Minnesota, USA in 2014.
The iCOMOS 2019 theme was “One World, One Medicine, One Science: the Way Forward for Better Health” with honorary guest speaker, M.L. Panadda Diskul, Assistant Minister to His Excellency the Prime Minister of Thailand, speaking on “Sufficiency Economy toward One Health; Human-Animal-Environment”.
More than 300 participants from more than 15 countries attended iCOMOS 2019, consisting of health practitioners, academicians, public health science students, and students whose majors were linked to the environment and animals.
