The Opening Ceremony of the 8th Biennial International Conference of the Japanese Studies Association of Southeast Asia (JSA-ASEAN 2023) and the 50th Anniversary of Japan-ASEAN Relations: A Flourishing Friendship

        On December 21, 2023, Assistant Professor Dr. Tanyanuparb Anantana, Vice President of CMU, Associate Professor Dr. Pailin Phujeenaphan, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration, and distinguished guests Mr. Higuchi Keiichi, the Consul-General of Japan in Chiang Mai, and Dr. Sato Yuri of the Japan Foundation, Tokyo, attended the opening ceremony of the 8th Biennial International Conference of the Japanese Studies Association of Southeast Asia (JSA-ASEAN 2023) and the 50th Anniversary of Japan-ASEAN Relations: Flourishing Friendship.

        The JSA-ASEAN 2023 was held between December 20-22, 2023, at Kantary Hills Hotel in Chiang Mai to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations with the support from multiple parties, including the Japan Foundation, Toshiba, Mitsui, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the CMU Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration.

        This conference welcomed academics from 19 countries, to include Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Israel, Taiwan, the UK, India, Bangladesh, and Thailand, coming to present their papers, exchange ideas, and to develop networks of collaboration.
