CMU was ranked number 1 in the country in Chemistry and Psychology in the 2023 edition of the SClmago Institutions Rankings (SIR). It also made the list in 10 subjects in QS World University Rankings 2023, landing third nationally overall. QS World University Rankings are determined by a British company called Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). CMU does intend to continue to improve on the course of becoming a leading university committed to social responsibility for sustainable development through innovation.

The SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2023 classifies research institutions from university, public, and private sectors using three factors, categorized as: Research (50%) measured from the number of publications and citations on Scopus, Innovation (30%) from the number of patents on PATSTAT, and Societal factors (20%).

In the overall ranking, 30 Thai higher education institutions made the list this year out of 4,533 institutions participating worldwide. CMU was ranked third in Thailand, number 313 in Asia, and number 2,681 in the world.

CMU also made the list in all of the 19 subject rankings and was placed in the global top 300 in Dentistry, at no. 134, as well as in Veterinary Studies, at no. 222. Nationally, it was named the best in the country in Chemistry and Psychology.

On top of that, on March 22, 2023, QS announced their 2023 World University rankings and CMU made the list in 10 out of 54 Narrow Subjects and two out of five in Broad Subjects, making it the third best in the country.

This year, CMU’s highest-performing Narrow Subjects were Agriculture & Forestry (151 – 200 worldwide), Nursing (151 - 180), and Mathematics (451 - 500) which appeared in the first year in the subject. Nationally, CMU was ranked second in all three. The university also saw an improvement in Medicine (251 - 300) and Environmental Sciences (401 - 450).

The five indicators of the rankings include 1) Academic reputation, 2) Employer reputation, 3) Citations per paper, 4) H-index, and 5) International Research Network, which was first introduced in the 2022 edition for the Broad Subjects category and then included in the 2023 edition for the Narrow Subjects. The weights vary depending on the subject.

These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the CMU staff that will keep us motivated to make positive contributions to society in the future.
