Chiang Mai University, through the Chiang Mai University Development Foundation and the Energy Research and Development Institute–Nakornping (ERDI), invites the public to contribute to the construction of clean air zones to protect young children from the harmful effects of PM 2.5 pollution.
The ongoing PM 2.5 crisis in Northern Thailand continues to impact the health of local communities, particularly young children, who are among the most vulnerable. In response, the “Dust-free Room” initiative was developed to provide safe indoor environments in child development centers and schools. These rooms are equipped with smart clean air ventilation systems and air quality control technology, specifically designed for non-air-conditioned spaces.
The system works by introducing clean, filtered air into the room while expelling polluted air, creating a continuous airflow that maintains air quality to ensure proper ventilation. Anti-dust curtains are also installed over openings such as windows and louvres to prevent external pollutants from entering.
Since its launch in 2024, the initiative has successfully established dust-free rooms in 82 child development centers and schools, with more than 200 clean air ventilation systems installed. This effort has enabled children to learn in a safer environment, reducing the risk of respiratory illnesses and enhancing their overall well-being.
The public is invited to be part of this initiative to help provide clean air for the next generation. Contributions are eligible for a 1x tax deduction, and every donation helps support healthier growth for children in the North. Donations can be made at: https://donate.cmu.ac.th/home/project-home-details/48/7.
