CMU organizes the 3rd "Myanmar Studies" International Academic Conference (3rd International Conference on Burma/Myanmar Studies / ICBMS III)

The Regional Center for Social Sciences and Sustainable Development, Faculty of Social Sciences, held the 3rd International Academic Conference on “Myanmar / Burma in the Changing Southeast Asian Context” hosted in collaboration with Mandalay University, during March 5-7, 2021.

The conference was to build knowledge and understanding about the economic, social, political, cultural, and environmental changes in the Union of Myanmar and for promoting a platform for academic exchange between Myanmar and Thai scholars.

This "Myanmar/Burma Studies" conference was attended by Mrs. Supatra Srimaitreephithak, the Thai Ambassador to Yangon, Mr. U Thien Thin, Consul-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Chiang Mai Province and was co-chaired by CMU’s President Clinical Professor Niwes Nantachit.

At the opening of the conference Dr. Surakiat Sathirathai, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chair of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council, and the Asian Peace Reconciliation Council (APRC), delivered a keynote address on “Economic Development and Myanmar in the New Geopolitical Landscape”.

More than 200 people were registered for this event, with 57 articles, 7 forums, and roundtable forums presented. The event was colorful with exhibitions, and book launches being held.
