The Opening Ceremony of "Indian Studies Center Chiang Mai University (ISCCMU)"

Chiang Mai University and the Faculty of Social Sciences, in collaboration with Embassy of Republic of India, Bangkok, Thailand and the Consulate of India, Chiang Mai organized the inauguration ceremony of the “Indian Studies Center, Chiang Mai University (ISCCMU)” on April 24th, 2019, 08.30 – 16.00 hrs. at Sikkhalai Plaza, Faculty of Social Sciences.
The honorable guests attended this auspicious occasion included H.E. Mrs. Suchitra Durai, Ambassador of India to Thailand, Mr. Akhilesh Mishra, Director General of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Mr. Shirish Jain, Indian Consul in Chiang Mai, Mr. Ranjeet Singh, President of Indian Community in Chiang Mai. In the morning of the event, CMU is honored to have special talks presented by both the Ambassador of India to Thailand and the Director General of ICCR, Mr. Akhilesh Mishra and in the afternoon session, speakers and representatives from several Thai and Indian universities/organizations will share their knowledge and visions on interesting topics related to Indian studies and Indian-Thai Relations.
The “Indian Studies Center, Chiang Mai University (ISCCMU)” has been established to play a pivotal role in defining the critical issues, generating the required knowledge, and developing information for strategic approaches to ensure a full understanding of India in socio-economic and cultural issues. As an interdisciplinary center with linkages with northern universities and international partnerships, it will establish priorities for academic activities on Indian issue and in the region. The center will also enhance the activities that link Indian community networks in Chiang Mai and the upper Northern region with other Indian communities in Southeast Asia, including participation in ASEAN events.
