We would like to invite you to visit the exhibition
M( )DA : What ( ) Talk About When ( ) Talk About
The looping question of this recursive reference does not merely invite us to reconsider “how we talk about art” or “how art talks about us,” but also draws us deeper into the processes of art itself—its modes of thought, creation, learning, and the multiplicity of forces that shape what we call the ‘art world.’
M(A)DA presents work by students from all four years of the Multidisciplinary Art Program, reflecting diverse creative processes that range from experimental and practice-based works to individual art projects. Each piece unfolds within the uncertainty of learning. In such an educational context, art does not exist solely within the artwork but extends into relationships among various entities: students, art, teachers, artists, audiences, and other things. These entities continuously shift roles within the ( ), where learning and meaning make occur simultaneously, within an ongoing state of ‘talking about.’
Art talks about other things, and other things talk about art. This cycle continues endlessly, revealing that the act of ‘talking about’ does not arise merely from the intentionality of the art world, but as an open process of relation—an unfolding dialogue between art and the external world, where meanings circulate and transform.
The faculty building, then, is not merely a site, but a space of interconnection—transforming into a studio, a laboratory, and an exhibition ground. Within it, learners and viewers collectively raise questions toward art and the world surrounding it: “What do we talk about when we talk about ( )?” “What does ( ) talk about when ( ) talks about us?” and “What is the world of ( ) we inhabit composed of?” The exhibition includes live performances, moving image programs, and seminar sessions—each forming part of an ongoing process of ‘talking about,’ allowing art to continue through acts of doing, seeing, listening, and relating in various forms.
What ( ) Talk About When ( ) Talk About is thus an ongoing exploration of learning and art-making—an unceasing process of reflection, creation, and conversation that continues to talk about and be talked about.
