Faculty of Nursing
Prof. Dr. Patraporn Bhatarasakoon from the Faculty of Nursing, Chiang Mai University and a Committee Member of the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council represented Thailand at the Seventy-Seventh World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland, held from May 27 to June 1, 2024.
Professor Dr. Patraporn was one of 48 delegates, which included senior public health and medical officials, lecturers, students, and staff members. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Advisor to the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health, led the delegation.
The WHA is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO) where delegations from all WHO Member States gather to discuss and decide on global health issues. This year’s assembly focused on fostering collaborative solutions and strategic initiatives to promote health equity and universal health coverage worldwide.
The delegation took part in a series of strategic roundtables with WHA delegates, partner agencies, civil society representatives, and WHO experts. They discussed current and future priorities for public health, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in tackling global health challenges.
Prof. Dr. Patraporn’s participation highlighted NurseCMU’s commitment to contributing to global health dialogues and fostering international partnerships. Her involvement underscored the essential role of nursing and midwifery in shaping health policies and ensuring comprehensive healthcare for all.
