‘PakPod’: CMU Platform Offers Over 1,300 Dust-Free Rooms Amidst PM2.5 Crisis
8 April 2026
Corporate Communication and Alumni Relations Center (CCARC)
Chiang Mai University (CMU) continues to advance its mission of developing innovation for society with the launch of ‘PakPod’, a platform providing real-time location data for more than 1,300 dust-free rooms across Chiang Mai. Freely accessible to the public, the platform aims to help mitigate the health impacts of the ongoing PM2.5 crisis.
As air pollution levels continue to rise and affect public health, CMU has leveraged its academic, technological, and human resources to develop ‘PakPod’, ensuring timely and equitable access to clean air spaces. The platform functions as a real-time online map, featuring ‘safe zones’ generously offered at no cost by various sectors, including government agencies, hospitals, caf?s, hotels, and other establishments equipped with standard air purification systems.
Co-developed by programmers from UNISERV and the Climate Change Data Centre (CCDC), ‘PakPod’ enables users to easily locate nearby dust-free spaces, complete with detailed information and navigation support. This helps reduce daily exposure to harmful air pollution. In addition, residents and business owners can contribute by registering and sharing locations of dust-free rooms, expanding coverage through a collaborative ‘Sharing Clean Air’ initiative during this critical period.
The Chiang Mai Provincial authorities have also adopted the platform to support public health measures, encouraging people to limit outdoor activities and increase access to safe indoor environments, in line with official health advisories.
CMU remains committed to addressing environmental challenges through academic excellence and innovation, with the goal of sustainably improving quality of life. To find a nearby ‘PakPod’ location, visit https://pakpod.cmuccdc.org and join the effort to build a cleaner air society.
