CMU Engineering Students Win Four Prestigious Awards at The 31st Tri-U 2025 in Japan

Representative Students from the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University (CMU) have brought international recognition to their institution by winning four Top 20 Presentation Awards, including the Best Presentation Award, Presentation Award, and Best Workshop Presentation Award, at The 31st Tri-University International Joint Seminar & Symposium (Tri-U) 2025. The event was held from September 22–26, 2025, at Mie University in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, Japan.

This year’s symposium gathered 69 participants from six universities across four countries, with presentations covering five key themes: Population, Food, Energy, Environment, and Disaster Management. CMU students achieved outstanding success with the following awards:
  • Best Presentation Award: Mr. Kanokphon Nontasan, an undergraduate student in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, for his work on “DenTalk: A Dental Communication Assistance”
  • Presentation Award: Mr. Supanat Rungnapavichet, an undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering, for his work on “Design and Energy Consumption Comparison of Positive and Negative Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) For PM2.5 Removal”
  • Presentation Award: Miss Soumya Chatter, a Ph.D. student in Economics, for her presentation on “Biochar for Economic Growth and Cleaner Air: A Sustainable Solution to Thailand’s PM2.5 and Rural Development Challenges”
  • Best Workshop Presentation Award: Mr. Matt Tanthai Cosh, undergraduate students in Information Systems & Network Engineering, in the topic of “What preparations can be made to facilitate the smooth movement of people in disaster situations?”
The award ceremony was held on September 25, 2025, at Sansui Hall A, Mie University, followed by a farewell party featuring cultural performances from students of each participating country. The event left lasting impressions, fostering cross-cultural friendships and networks. Beyond academic development, the symposium provided students with valuable opportunities to broaden their perspectives and engage in cultural exchange.
