ICDI Hosts “Cultural Harmony: Understanding Japan through Arts and Customs” to Promote Experiential Learning of Japanese Culture
4 December 2025
International College of Digital Innovation
On 3 December 2025, the International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI), Chiang Mai University, organized the activity “Cultural Harmony: Understanding Japan through Arts and Customs” to enhance students’ understanding of Japanese culture, social etiquette, and business etiquette through hands-on experiential learning.
The event was honored by the presence of Mr. HARADA Masaru, Consul General of Japan in Chiang Mai, who delivered an introductory lecture about Japan. He was joined by Mr. SUGIKI Takahiro, Vice Consul, who provided a special talk on “Japanese Manners and the Spirit of ‘Omotenashi’: Understanding Cultural Differences to Build Trust.” The session covered essential aspects of Japanese social and business etiquette, as well as the unique cultural characteristics of Japan. In addition, the Consulate team conducted a demonstration of the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, allowing students to gain direct experience with authentic Japanese cultural practices.
The activity aimed to promote a deeper appreciation of cultural values, mutual respect, harmony, and coexistence in a multicultural society. It also sought to broaden students’ global perspectives and prepare them for future engagement and collaboration with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
