The Faculty of Nursing, Chiang Mai University hosted a special lecture by Professor Kyoko Shimazawa, Professor at the Faculty of Global Nursing and Director of the Institute of Global Nursing, Otemae University, Japan. The lecture, entitled “Midwifery Education in Japan,” was attended by faculty members, students at all levels, and healthcare professionals on Friday, 10 July 2026, at Wilawan Senaratana Meeting Room, Faculty of Nursing, Chiang Mai University.

The special lecture provided an overview of the midwifery education system in Japan, highlighting the roles and professional development of midwives within the context of a society experiencing a declining birth rate. It also introduced the concept of women-centered care, which emphasizes comprehensive healthcare for women throughout the life course from preconception, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care to the promotion of women's health and well-being across all stages of life.
