ICDI CMU Strengthens China–ASEAN Collaboration in Digital Innovation and Smart City Development in Shenzhen

On 1 June 2026, the International College of Digital Innovation, Chiang Mai University (ICDI CMU), visited leading business organizations and technology companies in Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China, to promote collaboration in innovation, the digital economy, smart city technologies, and China–ASEAN partnership networks.
The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rattasit Sukhahuta, Vice President for Digital Technology and Law, Chiang Mai University, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Rujira Ouncharoen, Dean of the International College of Digital Innovation, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nopasit Chakpitak, Former Dean and Distinguished Professor of the International College of Digital Innovation, and members of the College’s staff.

During the visit, the delegation met with executives of the Shenzhen Investment Chamber of Commerce to exchange perspectives on regional economic development, emerging technologies, industrial innovation, and international collaboration. Discussions focused on the role of digital technologies in driving economic transformation and sustainable development across the ASEAN region. ICDI CMU representatives also shared the College’s initiatives in digital innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), smart city development, and international academic collaboration.

Both parties further explored opportunities to strengthen connections between academia and industry, as well as potential collaboration between Chinese enterprises and ASEAN partners to support innovation, investment, and the development of future digital economic ecosystems.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited a leading Shenzhen-based company specializing in smart parking and intelligent transportation technologies. The visit provided valuable insights into AI-driven solutions for parking management, vehicle recognition, urban mobility services, and intelligent transportation systems—key components of modern smart city development.

The discussions also highlighted the potential application of advanced technologies, including Computer Vision, Big Data Analytics, cloud platforms, and digital infrastructure, to enhance urban management, transportation efficiency, and quality of life. Both sides explored future collaboration opportunities in smart city innovation, digital infrastructure development, AI applications, and sustainable digital economy initiatives.

This visit to Shenzhen’s leading business and technology organizations further strengthened ICDI CMU’s network of partnerships with China’s technology sector and reinforced the College’s role as a bridge connecting academia, industry, and government. The engagement supports future collaboration in research, innovation, and digital technology development between China and ASEAN, contributing to the advancement of sustainable smart cities and digital economies in the region.
