CMU Hosts the 12th AHLA International Health Literacy Conference 2026, Welcoming Over 600 Participants from 10 Countries
2 November 2026
Corporate Communication and Alumni Relations Center (CCARC)
Chiang Mai University’s College of Lifelong Education, in collaboration with the Thai Health Literacy Promotion Association, the Asian Health Literacy Association (AHLA), and partner networks, hosted the 12th AHLA International Health Literacy Conference 2026 under the theme “Health Literacy and SDGs” from November 1–3, 2026, at the University Academic Service Center (UNISERV), CMU. The conference brought together more than 600 academics, practitioners, and policymakers from 10 countries.
The opening ceremony on November 2 was presided over by Prof. Pongruk Sribanditmongkol, M.D., Ph.D., President of Chiang Mai University. On this occasion, AHLA presented him with the AHLA Global Contribution Award in recognition of his leadership in advancing health literacy.
The College of Lifelong Education also showcased its Active Ageing Community 4.0 Project, supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). The exhibition highlighted its work from active ageing index assessments and learning activities to community-based implementation through Local Active Ageing Learning Centers (LALCs) and integration into local and provincial development plans. The project currently works with 52 local administrative organizations across 13 provinces, supported by 13 mentoring organizations, and has collected active ageing index data from 148,494 people aged 50 and above, achieving 92.8% of its target.
The conference marked an important step in bringing Thailand’s community-based knowledge and experience to the international stage, while fostering global collaboration to adapt health literacy and active ageing models to diverse local contexts.
