Chiang Mai University Executives Visit Japan to Strengthen Collaboration in Education, Research, and Innovation

Between October 7–12, 2025, a delegation from Chiang Mai University (CMU), led by Professor Dr. Pongrak Sribanditmongkol, President, together with Professor (Practice) Dr. Charin Techapun, Associate Professor Dr. Tanyanuparb Anantana, and Associate Professor Dr. Winita Boonyodom, Vice Presidents; Assistant Professor Dr. Worakanya Buranaphatthana, Assistant to the President; and Associate Professor Dr. Yutthana Phimolsiripol, Dean of the Faculty of Agro-Industry, visited several higher education institutions and partner organizations in Japan. The visit aimed to strengthen relationships and expand cooperation in education, research, and innovation.


The visit commenced on October 7, 2025, at Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT), where CMU and KIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The delegation met with Dr. Masahiro Yoshimoto, President of KIT, and his executive team to discuss collaborative opportunities.


On October 8, 2025, the CMU executives visited Kyoto University, meeting with Professor Tetsuo Sawaragi, Executive Vice-President for Research Ethics, Integrity, Code of Conduct, and International Affairs, and Professor Yasuyuki Kono, Vice-President for International Strategy, to explore potential joint research initiatives. In the afternoon, the delegation continued to Nagoya University, where they met Professor Naoshi Sugiyama, President, and other senior administrators to discuss academic collaboration.


On October 9, 2025, Chiang Mai University signed another MoU with Gifu University and met with Dr. Kazuhiro Yoshida, President, and his team. The CMU delegation also visited the Intelligent Production Technology Research & Development Center for Aerospace (IPTeCA), meeting Professor Akihito Sakai, Director of the Center, and his research team. Later that day, they continued to Asahi University, where they were welcomed by Dr. Katsuyuki Ohtomo, President, and his executives.


On October 10, 2025, the delegation visited Hiroshima University, where another MoU was signed. The CMU representatives met with Professor Mitsuo Ochi, President, and exchanged research insights with faculty members in the afternoon. They also paid a visit to SATAKE Corporation Headquarters, where they were warmly received by Mr. Kazuhisa Matsumoto, President, and his team.


This visit to Japan marks an important milestone for Chiang Mai University in expanding its international network with leading academic and industrial institutions. Through these strengthened partnerships, CMU continues to advance its mission of fostering global collaboration in knowledge creation, research, and innovation—paving the way for educational excellence and sustainable development in the future.
