Mass Comm, CMU Welcomes Delegation from Peking University to Exchange Knowledge on Thai–Chinese Communication and Advance International Academic Collaboration

The Faculty of Mass Communication, Chiang Mai University (CMU), led by Assistant Professor Dr. Supakrit Phothiphairatana, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, together with Assistant Professor Dr. Siwaporn Sukritanon, Associate Dean for Research and International Relations; Assistant Professor Dr. Pimolphan Chainan, Head of the School of Mass Communication; and faculty members, welcomed a delegation from the Institute of International Communication, Peking University, People’s Republic of China. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and discuss potential avenues for academic collaboration in the field of international communication. The meeting was held at Room MCB1101, Administration Building, Faculty of Mass Communication, Chiang Mai University, on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.

The delegation was led by Professor WANG Weijia, Dean of the Institute of International Communication, Peking University, and Director of the Research Center for Global Governance and International Communication, Institute of Area Studies, together with faculty members and researchers from Peking University, totaling six participants. The delegation visited Thailand to conduct research on economic and cultural exchanges between China and Thailand, as well as to exchange perspectives with scholars specializing in media, international communication, and area studies. On this occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication delivered welcoming remarks and emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange, as well as establishing and strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions. Such cooperation aims to promote mutual learning and understanding in the areas of communication and Thai–Chinese relations.

The program featured presentations and discussions on Thai–Chinese relations through the perspectives of media and academic research. The Faculty of Mass Communication presented research on China studies in Thailand and representations of China in Thai media, while the delegation from Peking University presented findings on the image of Thailand in Chinese social media. The participants then exchanged views on ways to promote mutual understanding between Thailand and China through intercultural communication and discussed opportunities to further develop future collaboration, including student exchanges, joint research projects, and academic activities between the two institutions.

The visit marked another important step in strengthening international academic networks and enhancing the role of the Faculty of Mass Communication, Chiang Mai University, as a platform for knowledge exchange in communication at both the regional and international levels.
