ECON CMU and TVSEP Host the 15th International Conference on Asian Economic Development (AED2026)

On 23 September 2026, from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with the Thailand-Vietnam Socio Economic Panel (TVSEP), organised The 15th International Conference on Asian Economic Development (AED2026) under the theme “Navigating Shocks and Uncertainty: Development Challenges and Resilience in Asia.”

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Pongrak Sribanditmongkol, M.D., Ph.D., President of Chiang Mai University, while Assoc. Prof. Rossarin Osathanunkul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics, delivered the opening report at the Pha Suk Lifelong Learning Conference Room, Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University.

The conference served as an international platform for the exchange of knowledge, research findings, and policy recommendations among academics, experts, researchers, and participants from Thailand and abroad. It focused on analysing the impacts of structural transformation and exploring economic mechanisms to address volatility, risks, and uncertainty affecting economic and social development across Asia.

The conference brought together scholars from leading universities and institutions in Thailand and overseas, with distinguished invited speakers including Prof. Peter Warr from the Australian National University (ANU), Dr. Manh Hung Do from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universit?t Hannover, Dr. Akshar Saxena from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Prof. Qingyi Su from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). They shared research insights and academic perspectives on key issues surrounding Asian economic development amid a rapidly changing and increasingly uncertain environment.

The conference represents an important mechanism for strengthening the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, as an educational and research institution with a strong reputation in Asian economic development. It also supports the international dissemination of academic research and provides opportunities for faculty members, researchers, staff, and students to exchange knowledge and experience and build collaborative networks with international experts, paving the way for future academic and research collaboration.

The conference also reflected the Faculty’s organisational values of “Commitment, Knowledge, and Sustainability” by integrating knowledge and perspectives from diverse dimensions to generate academic and policy benefits for wider society. At the same time, it provided students with opportunities to engage with global challenges in an international academic environment, supporting the development of graduates who are “Knowledgeable and Creative, Ethical, and Globally Oriented”, and prepared to learn, adapt, and respond effectively to future change.
