Chiang Mai University extends its warmest congratulations to our distinguished faculty members and researchers on receiving four Prize Winner awards at the Quality Innovation Award (QIA) 2025 across four disciplines. This remarkable international achievement underscores Chiang Mai University’s excellence in research and innovation, which generates a tangible social and economic value, contributing to global sustainability.

The Quality Innovation Award (QIA) is an internationally acclaimed innovation competition that promotes high-quality innovations with real-world applications that have positive social, economic, and environmental impacts. The 2025 edition was highly competitive, featuring entries from leading organizations across numerous countries. Chiang Mai University’s success in securing four awards is therefore a strong testament to the quality, capacity, and global relevance of Thai research.

In the field of engineering, Professor Dr. Peerapong Jitsangiam received the Prize Winner award in the category of Potential Innovations for his project, CMU Green Road. This carbon-negative road innovation, developed from biochar and recycled plastic, converts agricultural and plastic waste into high-quality road materials. The project is capable of storing up to 101.2 tCO?eq of carbon in the pilot area, marking a significant milestone in environmentally responsible infrastructure development.

In the category of Circular Economy and Carbon Neutrality, Associate Professor
Dr. Yuthana Phimolsiripol from the Faculty of Agro-Industry was honored for his project, Bio-Circular Innovation Using Black Soldier Fly. Guided by circular economy principles, this innovation utilizes black soldier fly larvae to convert organic waste into high-protein animal feed and biofertilizer, helping to reduce carbon emissions while promoting environmentally friendly practices.

In the category of Health Care Sector Innovations, Assistant Professor Krit Khwanngern, M.D., from the Faculty of Medicine received the Prize Winner award for Proactive Management for Collaborative Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Care. The initiative ensures equitable, continuous, and high-quality access to cleft lip and cleft palate care and features an integrated, interdisciplinary approach across eight northern provinces.

In the category of Business Innovation, Associate Professor Dr. Warintorn Ruksiriwanich from the Faculty of Pharmacy won for Hair Rise, a bio-circular innovation that utilizes a Thai rice by-product as a bioactive compound to effectively address hair loss and stimulate hair growth, while adding value to Thailand’s agricultural resources.

Chiang Mai University proudly congratulates all award recipients for their outstanding contributions. Their ability to translate knowledge and innovation into meaningful social and economic impact strengthens sustainability efforts and reinforces Chiang Mai University—and the Thai research community—as a recognized force on the international stage.
