Master’s students from the Digital Innovation and Financial Technology program, Chiang Mai University, recently joined an academic study visit to Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in Pohang, Republic of Korea during 20-23 April 2026. The visit was designed to broaden their international academic exposure and deepen their understanding of science, technology, and innovation at one of Asia’s leading research universities.

The group was honored to be guided by James Won-Ki Hong, PhD, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, POSTECH, who introduced the students to the university’s academic environment, educational approach, and research culture. His guidance gave the students valuable insights into POSTECH’s innovation ecosystem and international research practices.

During the visit, the students were welcomed by POSTECH’s International Relations Team and received an overview of the university. They also visited several academic units and research laboratories, including the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (GSAI), the Department of IT Convergence Engineering (ITCE), and the Department of Semiconductor Engineering. Special lectures delivered by POSTECH faculty members further enriched the students’ understanding of current technological developments, research directions, and future academic opportunities.

The program also included visits to key research and innovation facilities, such as FAB facilities, the Pohang Accelerator Lab (PAL), Changeup Ground, Taejoon Park Library, and major areas across the main campus. These visits highlighted POSTECH’s strong infrastructure for learning, research, and innovation.

In addition, the group visited POSCO Steel Museum and Pohang Steel Works, where students were able to observe how advanced technology and innovation are applied in real industrial contexts. This experience helped connect classroom learning with practical applications in manufacturing and modern industry.

The study trip was accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchai Sriyab and Dr. Nathapon Udomlertsakul, who led the students throughout the program. The visit marked another meaningful activity in strengthening experiential learning, international exposure, and academic development for students in the Digital Innovation and Financial Technology program.
