CMU Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Confucius Institute
28 October 2026
Corporate Communication and Alumni Relations Center (CCARC)
Chiang Mai University’s Confucius Institute celebrated its 20th anniversary, with Asst. Prof. Pitipong Yodmongkol, Ph.D., Vice President and representative of the CMU President, presiding over the opening ceremony. Congratulatory remarks were also delivered by Mr. Boonlue Thamthoranurak, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai; Ms. Li Jing, Acting Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Chiang Mai; and Prof. Hu Jinming, President of Yunnan Normal University, China.
Established in collaboration with Yunnan Normal University, the Confucius Institute officially opened on December 18, 2006, at CMU’s Language Institute. Over the past two decades, it has served as a hub for Chinese language and cultural learning in Northern Thailand. The institute continues to advance its academic programs, strengthen collaboration in master’s and doctoral education, and promote sustainable Chinese language education in the digital era. The anniversary celebration was held on October 28, 2026, at Khum Phaya Resort & Spa, Chiang Mai.
