CAMT CMU Delivers High-Precision UAV Mapping Innovation, Supporting Chiang Mai PAO in Flood Management and Sustainable Smart City Development.
27 May 2026
College of Art, Media and Technology
The College of Arts, Media and Technology (CAMT), Chiang Mai University, led by Asst.Prof.Danaitun Pongpatcharatorntep, Ph.D., Deputy Dean, along with Asst.Prof.Somkeit Noamna, Ph.D., Assistant Dean, and the research team from the UAV and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology Ecosystem Development Project, attended a research handover and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony. The event was part of a strategic planning and warning system rehearsal meeting for flood response, held in collaboration with the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization (Chiang Mai PAO).
During the event, the CAMT research team, led by Project Leader Asst.Prof.Phudinan Singkhamfu, Ph.D., presented a major milestone from the "High-Precision Mapping and Elevation Data via Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Technology" project. Funded by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the team officially delivered an aerial-photographic mapping platform and elevation database for Chiang Mai Province, which has successfully reached an operationally ready Technology Readiness Level (TRL).
This research marks a critical turning point for Chiang Mai's water management by providing a topographical database with centimeter-level accuracy. Local and government agencies can leverage this data for:
- Water Flow Analysis: Accurately calculating and predicting water flow directions.
- Infrastructure Planning: Designing robust and timely flood prevention systems.
- Disaster Mitigation: Enhancing preemptive measures to minimize economic losses from natural disasters.
This ready-to-use innovation serves as a solid foundation for driving Chiang Mai toward becoming a sustainable Smart City in the near future. The ceremony took place on May 27, 2026, at the Rachawadee Meeting Room, Khum Phucome Hotel, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai Province.
