CMU Partners with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan to Improve Cleft and Craniofacial Care

On May 28 - 29, 2026, the CMU Craniofacial Centre, Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance medical services, education and research in cleft and craniofacial care. Professor of Practice Dr. Charin Techapun, Vice President, signed the MOU on behalf of the CMU President. The signing ceremony was held at the Meeting Room on the 15th Floor of the Chalermprabaramee Building, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, Faculty of Medicine.
The collaboration aims to advance knowledge and standards of care through the exchange of expertise, technology and research, as well as the systematic and sustainable development of healthcare professionals. The MOU outlines bilateral cooperation in the following key areas:
• Knowledge and experience exchange in craniofacial surgery,
• Training and development programs for physicians, surgeons and interdisciplinary professionals, and
• Promotion of medical research and innovation to develop advanced and effective treatment methods.
To mark the beginning of this partnership, the Chang Gung – Chiang Mai Craniofacial Symposium 2026 was held for the first time, featuring academic lectures, seminars and live surgeries conducted by internationally renowned experts. The symposium covered a wide range of topics, from the importance of cleft and craniofacial care to treatment and rehabilitation approaches presented by specialists from Thailand and Taiwan. The event also fostered international networking, cultural exchange and stronger relations among participants.
This collaboration between Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Chiang Mai University marks an important milestone in strengthening international medical cooperation to improve patient care, while creating opportunities for personnel development, research advancement and medical innovation.
