6 May 2026
Corporate Communication and Alumni Relations Center (CCARC)
On April 23, 2026, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of the 2026 Asia University Rankings, which featured 929 institutions from 36 countries and territories. This year, Chiang Mai University demonstrated remarkable progress, particularly in the Research Quality domain, achieving an impressive score of 57.6. As one of the most significant indicators in the rankings, Research Quality accounts for 30% of the overall assessment. The achievement reflects the university’s strong capacity to produce impactful research recognized by the international academic community.
The Research Quality domain comprises four key components:
• Citation Impact
• Research Strength, compared with the global average
• Research Excellence, based on the proportion of research ranked among the world’s top 10%
• Research Influence within the international academic community
At the national level, Chiang Mai University retained its position among Thailand’s top five universities, alongside other leading institutions:
• Chulalongkorn University (No. 134 in Asia)
• Mahidol University (No. 146)
• King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (No. 201–250)
• Chiang Mai University (No. 251–300)
• King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (No. 401–500)
This year’s performance highlights the success of the university’s strategic efforts to strengthen research quality and generate knowledge aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while continuing to create positive socio-economic impacts at both the regional and international levels.
