On 31 July 2026, the research team for the project "Review and Analysis of Data for the Study on Domestic and Regional Rail Network Connectivity," commissioned by the Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (Public Organization) (RTRDA), conducted stakeholder consultations in Songkhla Province as part of the study on rail freight connectivity within the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC). The team was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Rujira Ouncharoen, Dean of the International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI), Chiang Mai University and Project Leader, together with Mr. Somsak Wongpanyathaworn, former Senior Director of the Bank of Thailand and Researcher.

The delegation met with Dr. Malin Suebsuk, Vice President of the Songkhla Chamber of Commerce, to exchange views on Songkhla's strategic role as Southern Thailand's economic, trade, and logistics hub. Discussions focused on strengthening connectivity among road, rail, maritime transport, and border trade gateways to support regional trade, investment, and supply chain integration.

The meeting also explored opportunities to enhance transportation infrastructure and logistics systems to improve freight efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of Thai businesses. Insights gathered from the consultation will contribute to the research and the development of policy recommendations for advancing Thailand's domestic and regional rail network connectivity while enhancing the country's logistics and trade capabilities.
