CMU Interdisciplinary Team Wins AI x Finance Hackathon

A team of CMU students teamed up with a student from Prince of Songkla University to win the AI x Finance Hackathon, beating more than 70 teams nationwide. The achievement highlights CMU students’ ability to integrate AI into the financial sector and develop innovative solutions for the digital age.

The winning team, FinJung, comprises of CMU students from three faculties: CMU Business School, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Economics, alongside a student from the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus. The team brought together diverse knowledge and expertise spanning business administration, economics, finance, engineering and technology.

The AI x Finance Hackathon is a national financial innovation competition hosted by CFA Society Thailand under the CFA Institute, in partnership with the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT). The competition aims to promote the development of ideas and innovations in finance through the application of AI, encouraging participants to use technology to address real-world challenges in the financial sector.

More than 70 teams from across the country entered the competition. Following the initial selection, 20 teams advanced to a workshop before five teams were selected as finalists. The final competition was held on August 2, 2026, at KBTG, K+ Building, Bangkok.

Members of the winning Team FinJung include Mr. Wisarut Selaman, a fourth-year student majoring in Marketing; Ms. Phonlaphat Meechan, a second-year student majoring in Accounting, both from CMU Business School; Mr. Natthaphat Sirang, a second-year student majoring in Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering; and Ms. Krittheera Munboon, a third-year student from the Faculty of Economics. The team also included Ms. Natnaree Susuwan, a third-year student majoring in Finance and Investment at the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus.

Throughout the competition, the team was mentored by Ms. Risa Siriwat, CFA, Deputy Head of the Investment Advisor Department at Kiatnakin Phatra Securities Public Company Limited. Her guidance and advice on applying AI to address real-world financial challenges contributed to the team’s outstanding performance, which was recognized by the judging panel.

Team FinJung’s success highlights CMU’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning and collaboration, enabling students to apply knowledge from different fields to address real-world challenges facing businesses and society. It also demonstrates the potential of AI and digital innovation to create value and new opportunities in the digital economy.
