CMUBS Welcomes Students from Singapore Management University for the EdVenture – Go Thailand Program
12 October 2026
Chiang Mai University Business School
Chiang Mai University Business School (CMUBS) hosted the Fall 2026 SMU EdVenture – Go Thailand program from October 4–11, 2026, welcoming 26 students and one staff member from Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore. The program offered participants a variety of academic activities and experiential learning opportunities focused on business, Thai culture, and local lifestyles. Designed as a short-term, non-credit immersion program, the initiative aimed to enrich students’ international learning experiences while further strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions.
As part of the academic activities of the program, students attended two lectures on October 5, 2026. The first lecture, “Beyond the Map – History, Culture, and Economy in Action,” was delivered by Dr. Chanon Chingchayanurak, Lecturer in the Department of Finance, who provided insights into Thailand’s history, culture, and economic development. The second lecture, “Basic Thai,” was conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Rawi Roongruangsee, Lecturer in the Department of Marketing, focusing on fundamental Thai language skills and introducing students to Thai culture and communication etiquette. In addition, students participated in a series of interactive workshops, including “Marketing Mania” led by Dr. Aticha Kwaengsopha and “Survival of the FIN(est)” led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Anin Rupp on October 6, 2026, followed by “Mission Management” conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pichayalak Pichayakul on October 9, 2026. These workshops aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and practical skills in marketing, finance, and business management through hands-on activities and interactive discussions.
Beyond classroom learning, students gained valuable insights into real-world business practices through a company visit to Lannacom Co., Ltd. on October 6, 2026. The visit provided students with an opportunity to explore the practical applications of digital transformation and sustainability in business operations, offering valuable perspectives on how organizations adapt to technological advancements and implement contemporary business practices.
Students also engaged in a variety of experiential learning activities across Chiang Mai. At Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary, they learned about elephant care and conservation through educational sessions and hands-on activities, including feeding, bathing, and preparing traditional herbal medicine for elephants. A visit to HillKoff Coffee Learning Center offered valuable insights into the coffee value chain, from cultivation and processing to the application of technology in business operations. Students also experienced traditional Thai agricultural practices at Ginger Farm Chiang Mai, where they participated in activities such as traditional rice cooking, preparing Khai Pam (Northern Thai grilled eggs), and rice planting. They also explored local craftsmanship and cultural heritage through a hands-on tie-dye workshop at Kalm Village.
The program was further enriched by 11 CMUBS students, who served as buddies and actively engaged with SMU students throughout the program. Their involvement fostered meaningful friendships, cultural exchange, and mutual learning between students from both institutions. The program reflects the shared commitment of Chiang Mai University Business School (CMUBS) and Singapore Management University (SMU) to promoting international learning experiences, enhancing intercultural understanding, and strengthening connections among students. These meaningful interactions also lay a strong foundation for further academic collaboration between the two institutions in the future.
