MIdS CMU Organizes Green Office Activity to Create Green Spaces and Promote Sustainable Environmental Management
15 September 2026
Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary School
On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary School, Chiang Mai University, organized a Green Office Activity under the project titled “Preparation for Becoming a Green Office (MIdS Green Office), 5S, and Big Cleaning.” The activity aimed to encourage staff participation in improving the organization’s working environment and to prepare MIdS CMU for the implementation of Green Office practices, in alignment with Chiang Mai University’s sustainability policy.
The activity was led by Prof. Dr. Apichat Sopadang, Dean of MIdS CMU, who highlighted the importance of environmental management and staff engagement in driving the organization toward becoming a Green Office. Asst. Prof. Dr. Thaneeya Chetiyanukornkul, Assistant Dean of MIdS CMU, also outlined the objectives of the activity and the implementation plan for the next phase, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in advancing MIdS CMU toward a sustainable and environmentally friendly workplace.
The activity consisted of three key components:
Activity 1: Tree Planting and Green Space Development
MIdS staff joined together to plant trees in various areas around the MIdS buildings to increase green spaces and create a pleasant working environment. The trees included Mueang Sari, which helps filter dust and absorb carbon, and Cha Plu (wild betel leaf), which contributes to increasing green areas within the School.
Activity 2: Making Compost from Leaves and Food Waste
Participants learned practical approaches to managing food waste and fallen leaves generated within MIdS by turning organic waste into useful resources. The session included a demonstration and hands-on practice on “Rapid Soil Composting”, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Thaneeya Chetiyanukornkul, Assistant Dean of MIdS CMU. The activity aimed to promote waste reduction while reducing the costs associated with organic waste management.
Activity 3: Pre-Audit Preparation for Green Office
MIdS staff worked in groups to brainstorm and collaborate on the preparation of documents and supporting evidence required for the Green Office assessment. The activity also enhanced staff understanding of the Green Office criteria and helped prepare the School for the upcoming assessment.
The Green Office Activity reflects MIdS CMU’s commitment to fostering environmental awareness, encouraging staff participation, and continuously improving its organizational environment. Through collective action and sustainable practices, MIdS CMU aims to develop a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable workplace, in support of Chiang Mai University’s vision for a sustainable university.
