International College of Digital Innovation
On 31 July 2026, the research team for the project "Review and Analysis of Data for the Study on Domestic and Regional Rail Network Connectivity," commissioned by the Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (Public Organization) (RTRDA), conducted a stakeholder consultation at the Southern Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) as part of its study on rail network connectivity within the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC). The team was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Rujira Ouncharoen, Dean of the International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI), Chiang Mai University and Project Leader, together with Mr. Somsak Wongpanyathaworn, former Senior Director of the Bank of Thailand and Researcher.
The delegation met with Ms. Pantipa Rattana, Director of the Southern Region Economic and Social Development Office of the NESDC and Ms.Chanista Julsuwan, Provincial Strategic Planning Specialist, to exchange views on Southern Thailand's economic and social development, transportation and logistics infrastructure connectivity, and regional development strategies.
Discussions also highlighted the role of rail transport in connecting economic areas, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and strengthening collaboration among government agencies and other stakeholders to support sustainable transport infrastructure and regional development. The insights gathered will contribute to the research and the formulation of policy recommendations aimed at enhancing Thailand's domestic and regional rail connectivity while strengthening the country's logistics capacity and long-term economic development.
