ICDI–CMU Delegation Visits the University of Strathclyde to Strengthen Strategic Academic Collaboration

On 17 August 2026, a delegation from Chiang Mai University (CMU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Rujira Ouncharoen, Dean of the International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI), visited the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom, to discuss research, Transnational Education (TNE), and future academic collaboration.

The CMU delegation included Asst. Prof. Dr. Rujira Ouncharoen, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nopasit Chakpitak, Prof. Radom Pongvuthithum, Assoc. Prof. Chulin Likasiri, Dr. Naret Suyaroj, and Dr. Worawit Tepsan.

In the morning, the delegation met with representatives from the Faculty of Engineering, including Professor Campbell Booth, Associate Principal and Executive Dean of Engineering, and Dr Prakaiwan Vajrabhaya, Senior Global Partner Locations Manager. The discussion focused on potential research collaboration related to the Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC), as well as opportunities for academic collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering.

The delegation also discussed the Strategic TNE Partnership through VIP for Sustainable Development (VIP4SD) with Dr Scott Strachan, Principal Teaching Fellow in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Co-Director of the VIP4SD programme. The discussion explored Strathclyde’s experience in using the VIP4SD model to support research-based education for sustainable development and its potential relevance to future collaboration among CMU, Edinburgh Napier University (ENU), and the University of Strathclyde.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited Strathclyde Business School and met with Professor Andrew Marshall, Vice Dean (Global Engagement), Professor Niall MacKenzie, Head of Department, Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation, Melissa McCrindle, Head of Marketing and Student Recruitment, and Karen MacGregor, International Partnerships Manager.

The afternoon discussions focused on the ongoing collaboration between ICDI, Chiang Mai University and Strathclyde Business School. Key topics included the renewal of the existing agreement, the continued development of the Business Enterprise 2+2 undergraduate programme, updated curriculum options, and opportunities to further promote the existing 1+1 postgraduate pathway. The discussion also explored potential collaboration in short courses, online modules, joint research, and the development of a future Transnational Education (TNE) programme.

The visit provided an important opportunity to strengthen institutional links between CMU and the University of Strathclyde, build on existing successful collaborations, and explore new directions for future joint programmes, research activities, and international academic partnerships.
