Faculty of Economics Holds the 2026 “Wai Khru” Ceremony to Honour Teachers and Welcome First-Year Students
2 July 2026
Faculty of Economics
On Thursday, 2 July 2026, from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m., the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, held its annual “Faculty of Economics Wai Khru Ceremony 2026” at the Well-being Lifelong Learning Hall. The ceremony was organised to provide students with an opportunity to express their gratitude and respect to their lecturers while preserving one of Thailand's most cherished academic traditions. The ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Rossarin Osathanunkul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics.
The ceremony commenced with participants paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, Krom Luang Ratchasarinee Siripatchara Maha Vajrarajadhida, followed by the lighting of incense and candles in homage to the Triple Gem. Student representatives then delivered the traditional Wai Khru pledge and respectfully presented floral offerings to the Faculty's academic staff as a symbol of gratitude and respect.
During the ceremony, the President of the Economics Student Association led the student pledge, reaffirming students' commitment to academic excellence, integrity, and respect for their teachers. Kansinee Guntawongwan, Ph.D., Associate Dean also delivered an inspirational address, encouraging students to pursue their studies with determination, responsibility, and a lifelong passion for learning.
A particularly meaningful highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of Faculty neck lanyards to first-year students by academic staff, symbolising their official welcome into the Faculty of Economics community. The presentation was accompanied by words of encouragement, marking the beginning of their university journey with pride and confidence.
The ceremony concluded in a warm and respectful atmosphere, reflecting the enduring bond between lecturers and students while reaffirming the Faculty's commitment to preserving academic traditions, fostering mutual respect, and nurturing future graduates with knowledge, integrity, and social responsibility.
