CMU’s President Clinical Professor Niwes Nantachit, M.D. and Mr. Thawalwongs Theerawitayapinyo, Managing Director, Fierex (Thailand) Co. Ltd. together signed an academic collaborative agreement for “Planting Cannabis and Extracting Cannabinoids” on June 19, 2019.

CMU’s President said that research has shown that Terra hydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), extracted substances from marijuana, have medical benefits, including relieving pain and for treating various diseases. In line with this the World Health Organization is requesting law enforcements to remove marijuana from their narcotics list and more recently Thailand has permitted the use of marijuana in the medical field and research.

The collaborative agreement aims to experiment with the planting of cannabis and extracting cannabinoids for medical benefits with goal to make this commercially profitable.
